Robin says “During a treatment I soak the feet to make the nail softer, I will push the cuticles back, trim and file them and then end it with a little massage and moistures them”.
So why is it so important to get your toenails cut regularly? If your toenails are not trimmed regularly you are more prone to skin infections such as cellulitis and fungal skin infections.
Getting them cut regularly also prevents you from having painful ingrown toenails. Keeping your toenails long is not only uncomfortable in socks and closed-toe shoes, but it also increases the risk of the toenail breaking or cracking and thus increases the risk of infection. Fingernails should also be kept short, and the undersides need to be cleaned frequently with soap and water. Because of their length, longer fingernails can harbour more dirt and bacteria than short nails, thus potentially contributing to the spread of infection.
Why do you push back the cuticles?
Pushing cuticles back is a great way to prevent them from splitting or getting infected, it also removes dead skin cells on your nails.
What’s the benefit of the little massage at the end with moisturiser?
Massages increase your mobility, stretches muscle tissue and improves blood supply. The loosening of the muscles significantly decreases the probability that an injury may occur during exercise.
A leg massage can reduce stress, decrease tension and help control anxiety, it can also help reduce pain by targeting specific leg muscles and manipulating them loosens up tight muscles.
It also relaxes muscle tissue which reduces painful contractions and sudden spasms. A good massage will also reduce nerve compression which causes pain and discomfort.
Moisturising helps prevent a lot of skin issues. It keeps the skin balanced.
If you’re not moisturising your skin, you increase the chance of dryness and irritation, which can lead to flakiness and itching as well.
Blemishes appear more intense when the skin is dry whereas moisturised skin is hydrated and shiny and so looks smooth. This reduces the appearance of spots and blemishes to a certain extent too.
